Best times for holidays in Poland
Families with school age children are limited to school holidays which is always a peak period because of the higher demand.
It may of interest that school holiday times are staggered in Poland itself to avoid this problem.
The winter offers skiing, snow boarding and winter sports.
The summer is just perfect for sightseeing, walks, barbeques and picnics.
There are events and reasons to visit at all times of year. Perhaps arrange your holiday around an event or festivals in Poland that the whole family might enjoy. |
Getting here
The nearest airport is Krakow (Balice or also referred to as John Paul II airport), located on the north west of the city.
There are various scheduled airlines and cheap operators. Book a few weeks or even months in advance for best prices.

A car is almost essential but certainly necessary to get the most out of a holiday here. The taxi fare from Krakow to the house is about £40.
Car hire for the week can be as little as £170. We have found Budget Cars quite reasonable and without problems. These can be collected at the airport and get you to the holiday house in about an hour. An automatic will make driving on the right-hand side of the road easier for you. |
Family Entertainment
Poland is family-friendly because your money stretches further due to inexpensive eating out and very cheap public transport, entrance to attractions etc.
You will find that children are welcomed just about everywhere. The night club and evening dining culture really only exists in cities and larger towns - evenings end much early in the countryside and small towns. The Poles main meal is at lunchtime and many restaurants close by 6 or 8 pm. |
The countryside, cycling and walking
This area is rich in national parks. The Tatra National Park near Zakopane is only 40km away plus three others nearer. All offer cycle paths and trails.
There are cycle paths through the park in Rabka, also a cross country cycle/mountain biking trail that passes on the Maciejowa hill behind the house.
Enjoy the unusual wildlife including red squirrels in the park and forests, pine martens, wild boar and bears found in the woods.
Good area for bird watching - the countryside is relatively unspoiled with extensive natural forests.
