Car rental from Krakow Airport
Car rental companies' desks are lined up opposite arrivals in the terminal building.
Their personnel speak English. You will need a valid driving license for car hire. Polish law requires that headlights are used during the day from October to March. We've found Budget to be the best car hire rental at Cracow.
Polish roads are generally of a reasonable standard. There is dual carriageway most of the way from the airport to the holiday rentals. |
Bus from the airport to Krakow
The bus from the airport into the centre of Krakow stands at the right hand side of the terminal building (on exit), at the far side of the roundabout.
The price of a ticket is low. Journey time to the centre of Krakow is just over half an hour and covers 11 km. Number 192 goes to the Railway Station in Krakow. The main bus station is next door to the railway station.
There are also buses to other airports and destinations. View Timetable. |
Taxis
The taxi rank is prominently positioned in front of the terminal building
Taxi drivers do not have a good reputation anywhere and we have found the usual range of fair to rip-off prices in Krakow. All cab drivers should display a price list and switch their fare display on - but this does not always happen.
One taxi driver whom we would recommend is Kazimierz Wachowicz (Kazik for short). He drives a smart 6-7 seater hatchback. Telephone 0048 606 37-64-80. He understands English but does not speak it well. Perhaps best to have your destination written down. |
Trains into Krakow
The Krakow-Balice train station is a five minute walk from the terminal building. On exit from the terminal, go right to the roundabout where the Krakow bus waits, and follow the red and white chain link fencing for 200 yds. There are also free shuttle buses for transfers to the station but it's not a long walk. You can leave your luggage trolley there in the rack provided.
Trains run approximately every 40 minutes into Krakow between the hours of just after 4 am to 12.30 am
View Train Timetable for Poland in English - excellent site shows duration, all changes and connections. Train travel is incredibly cheap in Poland. It's also possible to transport bicycles.
Tickets can be purchased online. Visit ticket purchasing site (also in English).

Catching a bus or coach to other parts of Poland, e.g. Rabka, Zakopane
Although there are public and private buses running from the main bus station to various destinations from the main bus station, there are also private companies operating express coach services from Krakow which offer space for luggage and a much more comfortable ride. It's possible to buy tickets on the bus. If travelling to Rabka, these pass through the outskirts of Rabka and you would need to then take a taxi to your destination in Rabka. See Rabka travel page for taxi phone numbers.
See Trans-Frej for Krakow Zakopane and other trips - all in Polish but a telephone number to call for advance bookings and enquiries.
Also coach trip between Krakow and Zakopane from main bus station in Krakow which passes through Skomiena Biala. Email or phone
