Best times to visit
This very much depends on whether you would like to ski or enjoy hot weather.
Skiing season is January to March. You will find ski slopes with ski lifts in the town, a toboggan run, and an outdoor ice rink. The main ski resort of Zakopane is just 40km away.
Summers tend to be hotter than in the UK. Enjoy the countryside and lazy days exploring this lovely part of Poland.
There are events and reasons to visit Poland at all times of year. |
Getting here
The nearest airport is Krakow (Balice or also referred to as John Paul II airport).
There are various scheduled airlines and cheap operators. Book in advance for best prices.
A car is almost essential but certainly necessary to get the most out of a holiday here. The taxi fare from Krakow to the house is about £40 or £55 for the hire of a mini bus to seat up to 20.
Car hire for the week can be as little as £170. We have found Budget Cars quite reasonable. These can be collected at the airport. An automatic gearbox will make driving on the right-hand side of the road easier for you. |
Entertainment
One of the nice things about a holiday in Poland is that your money goes a long way. Eating out, skiing and most things you do are inexpensive compared to the UK.
There are good selection of bars and restaurants for meals out, plus highland-style restaurants, for amusing evening experiences with dance, song and food with a regional flavour.
If you enjoy being pampered, beauty treatments, massage etc. are available at very attractive prices. |
Fauna and flora
This area is rich in national parks. The Tatra National Park near Zakopane is only 40km away plus three other national parks within half an hour's drive.
It's a pleasure to spot the wildlife including dark red/brown squirrels. There are still wild boar and bears roaming the woods.
Bird watching is great - the countryside is relatively unspoiled with extensive natural forests.
It's an excellent location for walkers, offering both uphill, and flattish, paths and trails with beautiful scenery. |
