Differences in wildlife
For people from abroad, the wildlife found in the Park Zdrojowy in Rabka Zdroj and in the countryside around it fascinating, partly because there are different varieties of birds, butterflies, insects and mammals to the ones we commonly see back home.
There is a large number of mature trees in the park and woodland to one side provides good cover.
Finches of all kinds are common, as are thrushes, wrens and pigeons.
Red, black and white Great spotted woodpeckers can be spotted tapping at tree bark for grubs.
Storks make enormous nests high up on telegraph poles and return to them year after year.
Eagles and other birds of prey scour the open countryside.
Glow worms cast their irridescent light in the trees in June.
