Things to do and see in southern Poland
During the winter, most visitors ski or snowboard. Try your hand at ice skating, tobogganing or just playing in the snow.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides are available in many locations. We have only been on the trip to Morskie Oko (Sea's Eye), a lake high in the Tatra mountains. You will need to pay a small entry fee into the Tatrzanski national park and then negotiate with the sleigh drivers. We were originally told 50 zlotys per person for the round trip and this included 2 children. Once we were sat on the sleigh we ere informed of an extra 30 zlotys per person to come back down the mountain. At this point we declined and walked off.
They called after us and we got the price of 250 zlotys round trip for 4 adults and 2 children. There are organised trips that you can take where all this is negotiated for you. We don't know whether the price we paid was average or whether we 'was done'.
At one time, the Morskie Oko trip took you to the actual lake, nowadays there seems to be 1 km left to walk to the lake itself.
Poland does have a variety of good buys to take home, although as a foreigner in tourist areas you may still need to negotiate.

Visit Gubalowka mountain in Zakopane for wonderful view over Zakopane itself, skiing, shops and restaurants. Take the rack and pinion train up to the top, it's possible to drive - parking is limited.
