If you’re planning to holiday in and explore south Poland, do consider staying in Rabka Zdroj, a town located between the beautiful city of Cracow and the scenic Tatra Mountains.

There is a wide variety of holiday homes to rent in and around Rabka Zdroj which include apartments, log cabins, traditional villas and new contemporary designs.

The advantage of staying in a town is that shops and restaurants are close by, often within walking distance. It’s fabulous to go out for the day and such a pleasure to return to eat at one of the several eateries in Rabka.

Holidays should be full of pleasure and entertainment and a stay in Rabka offers just that.

Holidaymakers are sometimes surprised by how hot Polish summers can be, temperatures in the mid 30s are quite normal. Temperatures in the town of Rabka Zdroj tend to be a couple of degrees lower than Cracow and two or three degrees higher than Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains.

The beauty of Rabka Zdroj lies in the Gorce Hills and surrounding countryside. Climb Maciejowa or Krzywon Hill for stupendous views. Summer is my favourite time of year in Poland, when myriads of wild flowers bloom under blue sunny skies although many people enjoy the freshness of spring and the glorious colours of autumn.

Rabka Zdroj is famed for its Central Park which has been extended in recent years. Visitors come from miles around to walk, cycle, Go Kart, skate and Nordic walk. It can be a hub of activity. A parkland walk alongside the river was created a few years ago. It’s currently a kilometre long from end to end and features a cycle path and a footpath. Benches are strategically placed along its length where people sit and chat or just read a book. There are musical fountains, a coffee shop, climbing walls and an outdoor gym. Grassy banks edge the river where people sunbathe or share picnics with the ducks on hot days.

Felek, the stork that failed to migrate with the rest is a new Rabka character. He is quite tame and doesn’t fly away even when people pass close. He can usually be spotted somewhere near the river.

A town outdoor  ice rink fun functions during the coldest months. Hire skates and take a spin with the other revellers. Sadly, the town ski slopes and schools are no longer. An artificial ski slope has been built on the edge of town, at the site of a previous ski run in Polczakówka.  The former ski slopes of Maciejowa are no longer operational although the excellent ski school, hire and runs at U Żura in Chabówka continue providing fun and tuition from late December until the end of March, or until the snowy season ends.

Other places worth visiting in Rabka are

The Museum
Rabkoland permanent funfair
Siwy Dym Restaurant for Polish food and live music at weekends
The woodland and forest for nature walks
